Adverse Weather Procedures

We are approaching the time of year when we can get isolated snow and ice problems throughout the district.
In the event of adverse weather conditions overnight, the bus and school organisation the following morning is as follows. There are three possible changes to a normal day:
  • School is closed
  • School is open as normal, however, some bus runs may be cancelled or running late
  • School has a delayed start (10am) with a compacted timetable for the remainder of the day. Buses may or may not be running.
Our two local radio stations (Classic Hits- 90.4, More FM- 99.4) will broadcast any changes to the structure of the school day / start times and bus timetable changes around 7am. The messages will be repeated over the next hour or more with any updates that may come to hand. If there is no news it means that school is open as normal.
Mrs Dickson will ring Leadership Team members once a decision is made and send a general email out. Our school website and phone message will be updated as soon as possible.
Please listen carefully to any Arrowtown bus reference so that there is no confusion with Arrowtown Primary School. If any bus runs are unable to proceed parents are requested to listen to their local radio station for guidance from Civil Defence/Queenstown Police etc with regard to road usage. All road users are advised to keep off the roads until Works Infrastructure have completed road clearance.

Should a severe weather event occur during the school day
Students will be kept in class until the end of the school day and a decision regarding transport arrangements will be made at that time.
We do not want parents to come to school to collect their children unless notified to do so.
There are three possible options:
  • Buses can run as normal because of road clearance
  • In the event that school buses cannot run after school students may be kept at school, overnight if necessary. The school will inform the QLDC who will coordinate transportation and the food and sheltering of students overnight here at school.
  • If school bus routines are altered, parents will be notified by local radio stations, the school website and telephone message service.
